3 Podcasts (Hosted by Women) to Start Listening Now

The original title of this blog post was “3 Podcasts That Changed My Life”, but then I thought I was being too dramatic. The point of this article is to share and celebrate the fantastic work of women that inspires and empowers thousands of ladies out there, without obscuring them with my theatrical tendencies.

I started listening to podcasts more actively last year, and like every other person at the beginning of their podcast junkie journey, I had no idea what to listen to, so I started with the basics. After half an episode of Joe Rogan’s show, I realised that too many average white men are giving attention to literally talking bullshit, so that was quickly over. Now, not to offend men, I know some of them are making good podcast shows, but as a woman, you know what I mean…

That is how my quest for inspiration began. I started researching thoroughly for podcasts with specific topics, like sex education, feminism, financial stability for women, etc., and also getting recommendations from girlfriends. I came across so many amazing shows it was tough to narrow them down to three. But I also know that we all have a busy daily schedule, and listening to 15 to 20 podcast episodes per month is impossible if we want to continue working and have a normal social life.

Without further ado, here are the three podcasts I listen to almost weekly that helped me to change my perception about a lot of stuff, made me feel included, educated, and helped me connect with my inner self. Also, they are quite fun, so give them a go!

#1: Archetypes

Hosted by Meghan Markle (a.k.a The Dutchess of Sussex), for me, Archetypes is a modern-day Oprah show. In it, Meghan explores the different archetypes that hold women back and puts them into “boxes” that end up defending their life. She speaks with some of the most controversial women, like Paris Hilton, in the episode Breaking Down “The Bimbo”. In it, two women, whom I believed to have nothing in common (and if I am being honest, they don’t), converse openly and in a supportive way while trying to understand each other. One of the things I love most about this show is that Meghan aims to get to know the actual person behind the archetype, without judging them and with full transparency.

The podcast is uplifting, feminist, educational and feminine, and most of all, empowering. A new episode comes out once a week.

#2 The Broad Experience

Hosted by journalist Ashley Milne-Tyte, this podcast is a must for every working girl! You know how at least once a month you go through that process of overthinking and being uncertain about your job, career path and all that grown-up stuff nobody prepares you for? Ashley dives into all those conversations, which all of us (women) are thinking, but not talking about, with women from all around the world.

Each episode is relatively short, on average 30mins, but it’s highly educational, and it brings the listener that pleasant feeling of belonging. A new episode is being realised once a month-ish.

#3 Financial Feminist

I mean, what can I say… the title says it all. This podcast is hosted by the financial expert (and, in my humble opinion, a real guru when it comes to money management) Tori Dunlap. She shares with her audience the most actionable and straightforward hacks to “make more, spend less, and feel financially free in a world run by rich white men” - in her own words. Though most of the information is for women who work and live in America, many suggestions can be applied to any country worldwide!

Whether you are interested in saving up more, the podcast's content is highly educational and enlightening. I find Tori's whole life story extremely impressive for someone who comes from a background with zero personal financial knowledge. A new episode normally comes out once a week!

These are my must-listen-to podcast recommendations!

I’d love to know which are YOUR favourite podcasts and why you love listening to them. You can share them with me through the contact form, and you might see some of them featured in AltGirl Newsletter’s next issue.

Until then,

XOXO
