Five Books by Female Authors to Add to Your TBR List
I believe myself to be a book lover (or the not-so-modern term bookworm), through and through.
Snuggling on the couch, sipping hot peppermint tea and burying myself into a book, ignoring all my problems as if I have no care in the world, seems like the perfect evening. Especially now in the colder months, when staying home and enjoying the warmth is more cherished than any other time of the year.
It’s also more acceptable when you cancel plans you made when you were in a better mood, so that’s that.
As a self-proclaimed book expert, I’ve decided to put into good use all the knowledge I’ve accumulated while browsing Goodreads and reading books, instead of participating in the brutal reality we call life.
After careful consideration and multiple reviews of my Goodreads account, I came up with five books, that you might wanna consider adding to your TBR list, because they are pretty phenomenal, and I gave each one of them a 5/5 rating.
Okay, let’s dive into it.
Book Lovers by Emily Henry
This one is for everyone who is trying to get back into reading. Book lovers is a contemporary romcom novel, that’s easy to read and hits all the right spots. A modern story that glorifies the big city (girl) life, it gives all the right “Sex and The City” vibes everybody loves. Emily Henry has newer novels you might wanna check out, but for the cold, cosy months, I think Book Lovers is exactly what you need.

Fast Like a Girl by Dr. Mindy Pelz
If you have a specific health goal for 2024, then Fast Like a Girl is the book for you. Through simple science, based entirely on a woman’s body and its function, Dr Mindy Pelz helps her reader understand what you can do for your health if you know what and when to eat. What I loved most about this book is that it does NOT follow any diets or modern food recommendations, but rather helps you understand your body, and nurture it during the different phases of your monthly period. Sometimes nurture comes through food, others through different fasting lengths.
Genres: Health, Nonfiction, Food, Nutrition, Personal Development

Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
If you ever went on TikTok and searched for book recommendations, the chance is you’ve seen this one. And honestly, it’s with a reason, because this book has it all - dragons, friendship, enemy-to-lovers romance, political scheming, constant killings and about anything else you can think of. Think ‘Game of Thrones’ but slightly more contemporary (and maybe a little less vulgar). It’s a sequence, so if you start you might wanna check the second one as well - Iron Flame.
P.S: Also if you are new to the fantasy world, it’s the perfect read to start with.

Untamed by Glennon Doyle
I really don’t know where to start with this book. Since I finished reading it in December last year (2023), I honestly cannot stop thinking and talking about it. I recommend it to anyone who listens, and I will continue to do so tirelessly. In it, Glennon Doyle opens up about life’s hardship and offers her point of view on the simplest and yet most profound moments of life that define us. If I could go inside this woman’s head to follow her pattern of thoughts I would. ‘Soulful and uproarious, forceful and tender, Untamed is both an intimate memoir and a galvanizing wake-up call for women’. Are you ready to answer it?

Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn
This one is an old classic. Published almost 18 years ago, it’s still one of the best thrillers I’ve ever read in my life. Think ‘The Silent Patient’ and ‘The Woman in The Window’ vibes, but darker. Gillian Flynn is a brilliant author, and we all know this from her best-selling novel ‘Gone Girl’ which made us all mad for her writing. So if you are like me, and you like your fiction world a bit darker and mysterious, in a small town where everyone knows you and you cannot hide your secrets, I suggest picking this one up. In the beginning, it might be slightly slower, but once it all unfolds, girl you will not believe it….

So, that’s a wrap-up of my book recommendations for January 2024. It’s not the typical trending list with all the new books for the year, but each of these made a strong impression on me, so I decided to bet on quality over trendiness.
Also, each one of those is written by a woman, in case you didn’t notice. 😉
